Today we learned a valuable lesson.
From almost the beginning we’ve planned to produce the game with a roll-up play mat. We’ve tried various different materials and had some great feedback with the various play mats we’ve demoed. In an ideal world, we’d have loved to produce the game with a rubber backed cloth play mat but today we made a mock up of the box. Sometimes you have to see something in the flesh to realise it just doesn’t work. Although we are particularly fond of the good old days of Torpedo Run and Battle Masters and the sense of occasion of unboxing and playing those two monsters in particular, we just didn’t think a box that is a meter long, 80mm high and 300mm wide would be given any shelf space in a crowded market today. Back to the drawing board. Or in this case, the folding board.
